Strange Physicians Coalition for Injectable Safety Print

We want to write a small article about an internet warning which is circulating as a press realease, apparently originating from a Coalition of Surgeons (the web site has some broken links). It is preaty surprizing that we can still have such reactions against mesotherapy which is a 60 years old technique. Although we can understand it is not FDA approved, it is strange that, after a few millions treatments made since 1952, this technology is now becoming the public danger number 1.

Of course, the components of the drug mixture need to be carefully watched and declared safe. This is also the case when you get an intraveinous injection or a vaccine and where no-one will try to say the entire technique is dangerous if you respect guidelines (no body would inject expired drugs, non sterile drugs, denatured component, or air, or potassium...). It is also very strange to see articles from the same people advizing that mesotherapy could improve results of other cosmetic procedures. Unfortunately, we were not able to find any scientific article or study to report and describe a case of blindness after eye injection or mesotherapy and we wonder how we can injected the central artery of the retina using superficial intradermal injections. The only PubMed publication we can find concerning CO2therapy are talking about laparoscopic surgery (blindness is transient) when CO2 is not delivered in the intradermal layers.

This makes us remember the extremely cold reaction of the scientific community when the father of Botox first presented his work involving botulinum toxin injections around the eye. No-one will now tell us that botox is unsafe, even after a few deaths or serious side effects due to outside guide lines use. No one will warn that Hair Removal killed 2 young patients last year due to an overdose of numbing cream. No one will criticize laser hair removal or many other laser procedure whereas it is hard to find a criticism free double-blinded study with enough patients.
